The Virtual Business Challenge (VBC)—DECA Hotel Challenge aims to build awareness of career opportunities in the hospitality industry. To accomplish this goal, the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation supports the VBC—DECA Hotel Challenge by providing curriculum to ten (10) DECA chapters each year and funding student scholarships to participate in hospitality events at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC).
Through the VBC—DECA Hotel Challenge, more than $6,000 in curriculum grants will be awarded at the start of the 2024-2025 school year to DECA chapters. This will ensure that teachers have dynamic tools/resources so all students have the opportunity to experience the career pathways in the hospitality industry.
The curriculum engages students by presenting them with challenges around ten (10) hospitality lessons and several projects, including key vocabulary words and quizzes to assess reading comprehension. DECA chapters may apply now.
Curriculum grants will be awarded based on need and planned use of the resources. Applications will be accepted until March 22, 2024. Recipients of the Virtual Business—DECA Hotel Challenge licenses will be notified in May 2024 and will maintain the license for three years.
