This Is Where It Starts: 2025 Chapter Meetings

Sep 1, 2025

The DECA year kicks off with energy, connection and endless opportunities ahead. Your first chapter meeting sets the foundation for everything to come (competitions, collaboration and community).

This list outlines key meeting types to help chapters create meaningful, engaging and well-rounded experiences for members throughout the year.

First Meeting: Set the Tone

Introduction to DECA and a space to start building relationships. The leadership team should be present to answer questions, share experiences and provide a clear overview of what members can expect.

Spend half the meeting on DECA information (such as competitions, leadership roles and chapter goals) and the other half on networking activities like Networking Bingo or Pitch the Item. Keep the main goal to help members feel informed and excited for the year.

Competition Interest Meeting: Finding the Right Fit

Introduces members to DECA’s competitive event categories and helps them explore which career clusters align with their interests. Break down the differences between case studies and prepared events, and provide examples of each to make choosing an event easier. Use this time to answer questions and share preparation tips and resources.

Hosting these meetings early in the semester (preferably before the holiday season) ensures ample time to prepare.

Competition Preparation Meetings: Practice with Purpose

As competition season approaches, preparation becomes key. These meetings should include mock role-plays with feedback from chapter leaders, university faculty (if available) and even industry professionals. Schedule dedicated sessions for practice exams and provide working time for those completing written events.

These meetings are essential for building confidence, refining skills and helping members feel fully prepared for competition day. It is recommended to have a few of these meetings before the competition for optimal member performance.

Professional Networking Night: Real Connections

These events give members the chance to connect with local business owners, alumni and industry leaders. A structured Q&A panel allows guests to share career insights, leadership lessons and practical advice. Panels should include pre-planned questions as well as live audience interaction to keep the conversation dynamic.

This event is a great way for members to learn about real-world industries and begin building meaningful professional relationships.

Community Service Projects: Give Back Together

DECA is about more than competition. Community service project meetings are dedicated to organizing volunteer efforts that make a local impact. Chapters might partner with food banks, animal shelters, homeless shelters or organizations like Habitat for Humanity.

These projects strengthen team bonds, reinforce leadership skills and show the value of giving back while building connections outside the classroom.

Holiday Meetings & Social Events: Celebrate the Season

This is a chance for members to connect and unwind in a fun, festive atmosphere. From Halloween-themed pumpkin carving to holiday cookie decorating, these events bring the chapter together and build lasting friendships.

Lighthearted, low-pressure gatherings like these strengthen chapter culture and offer a well-deserved break from competition preparations.

End-of-Year Banquet: Celebrate the Journey

A celebration that recognizes the hard work, growth and achievements of members throughout the year. The evening typically includes an awards ceremony, highlights from the chapter’s successes and reflections from members and leaders.

Invitations can be extended to local sponsors, university organizations and even other DECA chapters to share in the celebration. It’s also a great opportunity to thank supporters and build momentum for next year.

Go the Extra Through Meetings

Chapter meetings are more than just check-ins; they’re moments to connect, lead and grow. Use these ideas to guide your planning and create an engaging, impactful, and fun chapter experience!
