New Classroom Activity: Everything Needs Accounting

Oct 6, 2026

AICPA is excited to share Everything Needs Accounting, a classroom resource designed to help students recognize how accounting connects to the industries, interests, and decisions they encounter every day. This activity encourages students to think beyond traditional perceptions of accounting and discover how accounting supports careers and organizations across a wide range of businesses.

Through a series of guided reflection questions, students will:

  • Explore where money, budgeting, planning, and decision-making show up in their daily lives.
  • Identify how accounting is used in industries that interest them, from sports and entertainment to technology, healthcare, gaming, entrepreneurship, and more.
  • Challenge common misconceptions about accounting careers and consider how the profession aligns with their own interests and future goals.

‍

This flexible tool can be used in the classroom, during DECA chapter meetings, as a career exploration exercise, or as an independent enrichment assignment. It requires minimal preparation and is designed to spark discussion while helping students connect accounting to real-world opportunities.

Feel free to adapt or share this activity with your students. It's a great way to help them see that accounting isn't just about numbers. It's about helping people and organizations make informed decisions in every industry.
