Get Ready for Round Two of the DECA Virtual Business Challenge

Jan 2, 2024

Competition ends on January 26, 2024

The DECA Virtual Business Challenge (VBC) is an official competitive event free to high school members and hosted by Knowledge Matters. The event is based on the Virtual Business series of simulations and offers over $20,000 in scholarship money.

Participants in the interactive, digital DECA Virtual Business Challenge (VBC) operate a web-based business simulation. The VBC qualifying rounds are conducted via the internet, where participants post competition scores for chartered association, regional and overall rankings. With eight different VBC tracks available, there is something for everyone!

  • VBC Accounting
  • VBC Entrepreneurship
  • VBC Fashion
  • VBC Hotel Management/DECA Hotel Challenge (Presented by the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation)
  • VBC Personal Finance
  • VBC Restaurant
  • VBC Retailing
  • VBC Sports

PARTICIPATION

The competition is FREE to all active high school DECA members. The challenge is entirely web-based; no installations or downloads are necessary.

Students may participate individually or in a group of up to three members from the same DECA chapter. Students may only be a member of one team per track. Each individual or team can participate in as many tracks as they would like.

REGISTRATION

DECA members who registered to participate in round one may continue to use the same accounts to participate in round two. They should not register for new accounts. Participants who qualified in a VBC track during Round One are not permitted to change team members or register for new teams within that track during Round Two.

DECA members who did not participate in round one, may participate in round two. The two rounds are scored separately and are independent of one another. To register, please have members visit this page and click on the "Register for Competition" button.

Advisors may make changes to teams even after the teams have been approved up until the last week of the round. This may be done through the “Manage & Approve Teams” area through the advisor’s account. Once we reach the last week of the qualifying round, no team members may be added to teams.

If you did not receive login credentials to access your VBC advisor account at the beginning of the school year and your chapter is interested in participating, please contact us at support@knowledgematters.com.

RECOGNITION

The top two teams, per track, per round will be eligible to compete during the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), providing teams meet their chartered association’s rules and regulations. See challenge guidelines for more information on ICDC qualifications. Additionally, the top-performing team, per track, per round in each chartered association will receive a certificate of achievement. Student members competing at ICDC may not compete in another ICDC event.
