Colorado State University DECA celebrated another semester, finishing with a relaxing holiday social event! Members were encouraged to bring drinks, snacks and foods of their choosing for a community potluck, as well as a gift for an exchange later on in the night.
As they dove into their meals, two of our officers and one member presented case studies they had been working on, and members had the opportunity to judge the presentations. After they were given the chance to provide any advice or comments for improvement for our presenters. Including case study presentations at the social event allowed members to present calmly in a relaxed environment, without feeling overly stressed or nervous. Creating this type of environment is important, as it can help present skills and the ability to remain calm under high-pressure situations.
Once the presentations concluded, members were given the chance to socialize, talking about everything from the difficulties of the past semester to what they were looking forward to in the months ahead, including CICDC!
During this time, the officer team worked hastily to set up a White Elephant gift exchange on the other side of the room, moving chairs and tables and preparing all the gifts. All the participating members in the exchange found a seat as numbers were handed out to determine order, and the rules were being explained. After an intense time full of stealing presents and uncovering new ones, all our members had gifts they were excited to try.
Blending socializing and competition readiness proved an excellent combination that fostered community and professionalism. Our chapter strongly recommends that other chapters across the nation learn to blend these two, as the results can be promising and help bring the community together. CSU DECA is excited for what is to come during the spring semester as we prepare for CICDC!
