Choosing the right event can be overwhelming. Whether you want to pitch the next big AI startup in a written event or provide expert financial advice in a roleplay, DECA can provide the guidance you need to find your fit and Go The Extra.
Here is a directional guide on how you can utilize the DECA Competitive Events page to assist in making a decision:
1. Visit DECA.org/compete
The introduction on the competitive events webpage shows the various clusters DECA offers. If you are new to DECA, this is a great place to understand how competition connects to real-world business pathways.
2. Learn What DECA Offers
Scroll down on the page for an overview video and an explanation of competitive event formats.
DECA divides its competitions into three broad categories: Role-plays + Case Studies, Prepared Events, and Online Simulations.
Exploring this section will help determine which event style best suits your strengths.
3. Explore Event Categories
DECA offers 60 competitive events in business management, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality and tourism, marketing, and personal financial literacy. From quick 10-minute role-plays to 20-page written entries and slide decks, there’s a competitive event for everyone.
With the searchable event library, you can narrow down your preference for event type by selecting checkboxes under career cluster, category and participants. Once you apply filters, a list of matching events will appear, showing the event name and abbreviation.
When you click on an event, you will receive key details about its structure, format, and guidelines. There will also be sample exams and events when applicable.
4. Reflect on Your Goals
At the end of the day, think about why you decided to join DECA. Ask yourself these questions:
- “What specific interests in business do I have?”
- “What skills do I hope to build?”
- “How can I utilize DECA as a platform to achieve my career goals?”
