Collegiate DECA Engage 2025 is quickly approaching! We can’t wait for hundreds of Collegiate DECA members to converge in Tampa, FL, at the end of this month for a weekend of learning, collaborating, networking, and competing!
Are you preparing to take the stage in this year’s competitive event competition? If you’re looking for a little extra practice, we are sharing last year’s Individual Case Study scenario below. Give yourself 20 minutes to prepare and then practice sharing your 10-minute presentation with chapter members.
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Develop strategies to position products/services.
- Build corporate brand.
- Identify products’/services’ competitive advantage.
- Explain key factors in building a clientele.
- Explain factors that influence customer/client/business buying behavior.
CASE STUDY SITUATION
You are the general manager of GHOSTLY TAPROOM, a business located in a local craft brewery that serves up a variety of GHOSTLY beers. GHOSTLY TAPROOM is one of 9,000 craft breweries in the nation and one of 220 in the state. There was a surge of new local craft breweries that opened in the state since 2011 when there were only 35 at that time. Most local craft breweries in the state are in the most populous cities, leading to market saturation.
- GHOSTLY TAPROOM has encountered a number of negative factors that have affected sales:
- Rising cost of ingredients, packaging, labor and rent
- Competition at an all-time high
- People are drinking less alcohol
- Bars/Restaurants are not serving as many craft beer options as before
While patrons love GHOSTLY TAPROOM beers, there are far too many taprooms and breweries in the area for GHOSTLY TAPROOM to be the favorite. To gain repeat and loyal customers, the owner has brought in pinball machines to attract players and leagues, has different food trucks set up in the parking lot nightly and hosts local live musicians on Friday and Saturday nights.

Good luck with your competition preparation, and we can’t wait to see you in Tampa in just a few weeks.
