From October 12-16, DECA is shining a spotlight on our newest members with our first-ever New Member Week. This week is a chance for us to meet the new faces in your DECA chapter or association as you show them off.
Here are some ways your chapter can get involved with New Member Week:
1. Social Media Spotlights
Showcase your new members on social media for the world to see! Showing off your new members is a great way to expand your membership recruitment efforts, especially if your chapter activities are virtual this year. Include member-submitted photos, fun facts and their reasons for joining DECA.
Bonus: If your classes are able to meet in-person, decorate your chapter's bulletin board or display case to feature your new members.
2. Member Mentor Program
Pairing each new member with a seasoned pro will help them feel welcomed into your DECA chapter. A quick way to pair members is to hold a virtual speed networking event, then ask both new and existing members to rank their top choices for who they think would make a great mentor/mentee. Members can also be paired based on career interests or by the types of competitive events they are participating in.
3. DECA Starter Kits
Nothing welcomes new members to DECA like a starter kit filled with resources and custom chapter gear. Check out items from Shop DECA, or create your own custom t-shirts, hoodies or masks. Other fun items could be a yard sign for members to display at home, a DECA poster, a personalized welcome card from your chapter's leadership team or advice from current members or alumni.
