Become a DECA Direct Reporter

The DECA Direct Reporter program is back for the 2019-2020 school year. This is an exciting, selective role that will come with great experience and exposure for you, your chapter and your association. Reporters will be major contributors to DECA Direct Online and will help shape the direction of the platform. We are looking for exceptional writers with an eye for new and exciting content who will amplify the student voice.

Who are DECA Direct Reporters?

When we think about DECA Direct Reporters, we envision members who are integral parts of their DECA community; they are active on social media and engaged with what’s happening in their chapter, their association, their school and the world around them. Reporters are leaders, visionaries, innovators and thought-provokers. They are in tune with DECA members across their association and their region, recognizing the stories that deserve to be shared and the content that other members long for.

As a Reporter, you will bring your unique but relatable point of view to DECA Direct and your unique voice will resonate with thousands of readers. A successful reporter will create dialogues, covering topics that are relevant, timely and interesting to DECA members all over the world. As leaders in your area, you will spark conversations and share the stories of DECA members and chapters near you. You will expand your networking, reaching out to new people to uncover enticing stories and find content worth sharing.

What will Reporters do?

DECA Direct Reporters will be responsible for writing assigned articles as well as sourcing new stories for DECA Direct Online. Each reporter can expect to write 2-3 articles per month, but a minimum of 1 article per month is required. This is an excellent opportunity for DECA members interested in communications, journalism and/or media. Please note that this role is a six-month commitment from November 2019 – April 2020.

What are the requirements?

  • Organized and able to meet strict deadlines
  • Exceptional writing ability
  • Ability to communicate clearly and in a timely manner with various stakeholders (members, officers, advisors, etc.)
  • Willingness to accept and implement feedback
