Five Ways to Elevate Your Summer to the #NextLevel with DECA
If there’s one thing we know, it’s that this summer will be like none other. Finding ways to ease your mind and not be constantly reminded of the global pandemic is not as simple as it sounds.
Luckily, here are five pieces of advice to take your summer experiences to the #NextLevel.
DECA is not confined to the restraints of the academic year. A great way to feel connected in DECA throughout the summer months is to maintain communication with your DECA family. Keep a group chat active and message your DECA friends individually. When it’s safe to do so, hang out with your DECA chapter and have the end of the year banquet that you couldn’t have in person this spring.
While we’re all cooped up at home, now is the perfect time to master your DECA competition. Even if you’ve previously won DECA glass, there is always room for improvement. Prepare yourself to compete in a new event this year, or even push yourself to finally do a written project. The new prompts for this year’s Collegiate DECA prepared events have not been released yet, but you can still keep your brain active and in a business frame of mind so that once they are released you will already be well on your way to the #NextLevel.
Throughout this summer, it is more important than ever to keep your chapter as close as possible. Whether in person or virtually, every chapter should host a Summer of DECA soirée. Since most chapter members haven’t seen each other in months, hosting a DECA event with all members is a great way to have fun and stay connected!
Now, more so than ever, it is crucial to network. Browsing social media for other Collegiate DECA members to connect with is a great way to meet people you would have met at ICDC and beyond. Once connected, send a message telling them who you are and your connection to them. This is a great way to expand your network and make relevant business connections that you will meet at future Collegiate DECA conferences! Also, check out the Collegiate DECA Facebook group.
When you think of the Summer of DECA, I am sure the first idea that comes to mind is not fundraising, but getting ahead and starting to fundraise early will set your chapter up for success. A great idea for summer fundraising is teaming up with your local grocery store and having a cookout at their storefront. Most grocery stores will provide you all of the supplies (hotdogs, brats, buns, ketchup, mustard, chips, pop, etc.) for free. So, every penny you make has the potential to be straight profit and go into your chapter’s account!
Stay safe, and I hope that you and yours are doing well!
