#WhyDECA Member Showcase: Catelyn Tankersley
In the months leading up to #DECAICDC in Nashville, the DECA Executive Officer Team will be showcasing members’ stories about why they participate in DECA.
Meet our second member, Catelyn Tankersley, from Colorado!
“My name is Catelyn Tankersley and I am a proud member of Colorado DECA.
I joined DECA during my sophomore year because I wanted to improve my public speaking, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. But after being a part of the organization for more than a year, I can say I have gained so much more than that.
DECA has introduced me to a community of likeminded, dedicated individuals who seek to grow in leadership and business knowledge. It has shown me the potential I have to be successful in the workforce. It has improved my ability to connect and relate to those around me. Through it, I have discovered my greatest friendships and been mentored on countless occasions by my peers.
The joy and confidence that DECA gives me is my motivator to become better at it. Last year, I was able to win first place at the Colorado State Career Development Conference and compete in Orlando at ICDC. I believe that my results are a testimony to the passion I have for the organization and what it stands for.
This year, I seek to become more involved in DECA, whether that be through my position on my high school officer team, competing in my role-play and written event, or running for a Colorado State Office position.
Ultimately, DECA has been one of the highlights of my high school experience and has been so instrumental in preparing me for my future. I feel secure in my talents and my goals and am optimistic about the next chapter of my life.”
