Top 10 Collegiate DECA Moments to Look Forward To in 2020

The end of the year signals many things – the holiday season, finals week and a well-deserved winter break for students across the globe. For Collegiate DECA members, however, the end of 2019 means the beginning of the competitive season, with huge competitions like State Career Development Conferences and the International Career Development Conference on the horizon. To make the most of these opportunities and so many others, here are the top 10 DECA moments to look forward to in 2020!

1. DECA Scholarship Season

Every year, DECA gives away over $300,000 in scholarships to members around the world! The 2020 scholarships will be awarded to members at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta! The deadline to apply for your share of scholarships is January 17, 2020.

2. State and Regional Conferences

Around the world, members look forward to attending conferences at the district and state levels! These conferences provide amazing opportunities to get to know other members, hear life-changing keynotes from business professionals and compete to qualify for ICDC. Ask your chapter or association advisor for more information on how you can attend the next conference in your area!

3. Round Two of the Collegiate Stock Market Game

For Collegiate DECA members interested in competing to win the Stock Market Game, the second round of competition will begin on February 3 at 9:30 a.m. EST. Each entry can be composed of one to three student competitors who will be tasked with investing virtual cash into a variety of assets to create a high-value portfolio. Round two will conclude on April 10 at 4:00 p.m. and winners will be announced at the ICDC.

4. Leadership Passport Program

Another wonderful opportunity for Collegiate DECA members is the Leadership Passport Program, which offers recognition for both individual members and chapters. Interested members must complete a variety of leadership-related tasks to complete the program. The submission deadline is February 15, and members who complete the program will be recognized at the Collegiate International Career Development Conference. 5. International Career Development Conference

Every Collegiate DECA member knows that the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is a major highlight of every year. In 2020, collegiate members are in for a treat as they will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to showcase their skills at an international level. While this conference is an amazing opportunity to compete, it also provides members with the ability to network with students from around the globe, elect a new group of executive representatives and meet business leaders from across the country.

6. Winning DECA Glass

While ICDC offers many incredible opportunities, no member could pass up the thrill of competing to take home their very own DECA Glass! Both the preliminary and final rounds of competition offer exciting prizes, and nothing is more enticing than the opportunity to take the stage and hear your chapter and association cheer you on! Will 2020 be the year you take home DECA Glass?

7. Election of New Executive Officers

Although saying goodbye to your 2019-2020 DECA Executive Team will be bittersweet, the election of new officers is an exciting prospect. Voting delegates will play an integral role in this process as they will have the opportunity to meet with the candidates one-on-one and cast their ballots on the final day of the conference. At the Grand Awards Session, members will get to see the new executive officers take the stage for the first time as a team.

8. College Decision Day

As the school year draws to a close, graduating high school seniors will have the chance to announce their plans for college on May 1, Decision Day! Continue your DECA journey by joining Collegiate DECA at your college of choice. 9. Summer of DECA

The summer months are a perfect time to relax and decompress after a long year, but that doesn’t mean DECA has to be put on hold! Stay involved in the organization during the off-season by participating in community service projects, applying for internships and making plans for your next year in DECA.

10. Recruitment Season

As the summer months end and the school year begins again, recruitment season will be in full swing. Recruit new members by sharing your DECA story with others, and encouraging them to enjoy the many benefits of membership. This exciting time of year allows for plenty of fun recruitment activities and for the opportunity to meet other students on campus!
