Get LinkedIn to Business

Imagine how cool it would be to have direct contact with business professionals in the industry of your interest.

Well, no need to imagine anymore! There’s a platform with over 645 million people on it called LinkedIn. I’m sure you’ve heard of it before, but for those who want to know more about the benefits, you’ll want to continue reading this article.

Being a DECA member since my sophomore year of high school, I have connected to over 1,600 professionals, friends, DECA members, alumni and advisors. Every day I gain new connections that can potentially be a huge asset in the future. No matter what your career interests are, it’s important to create a profile and be active on LinkedIn. You no longer have to go business-to-business to find a job. You no longer need family ties in the industry to rise up and capture opportunities. LinkedIn is your opportunity to make connections, prove your worth and get the job of your dreams. I have been a Smart Home Security salesman, a car salesman and now a member of the Disney College Program because I submitted my LinkedIn profile with those companies.

Have you ever published an article? Attach it to your profile. Ever won an award in DECA? Add it to your profile, too. Connect with the world and the world will connect with you.

Entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk released an article on his website revealing 5 tips to building your personal brand on the platform. To summarize his magical tips:

  • Post and comment on up-and-coming trends and you’ll soon be a part of a community just for contributing two cents to a conversation. Decide what type of person you want to present to the world. Are you an educator? An influencer? An entrepreneur? The sooner you answer that question, the sooner your brand will expand.
  • Write articles, post videos or share photos that best depict your views or personal experiences.
  • Add your branded LinkedIn profile link to your email signature.
  • Don’t spam people with messages; message with caution and be respectful of others.

Following these tips is a huge step forward. LinkedIn is a community of innovators, dreamers, students and educators. Use this platform to your advantage and make the connections necessary to succeed. Build your brand, share your stories and stay linked into business!
