The Second Round of The DECA Virtual Business Challenge Launches January 8, 2019

Test your management skills in a variety of career areas without leaving your seat with the DECA Virtual Business Challenge (VBC). DECA’s VBC is a fast-paced, online simulation that challenges students to manage tasks in a virtual business, such as market research, pricing, financial reporting and more. The challenge is FREE to all active high school DECA members. No installations or downloads are necessary to participate in any of the challenges.

There is a DECA Virtual Business Challenge track for every student:

  • VBC Accounting
  • VBC Fashion
  • VBC Hotel Management/DECA Hotel Challenge
(Presented by the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation)
  • VBC Personal Finance
  • VBC Restaurant
  • VBC Retailing
  • VBC Sports

Students may participate individually or in a group of up to three members from the same DECA chapter. Students may only be a member of one team per track. Each individual or team can participate in as many tracks as they would like.

Each virtual round will last 11 days. Students can participate in the simulation multiple times. Only the highest score will be utilized for ranking.

DECA members who did not participate in round one may participate in round two. The two rounds are scored separately and are independent of one other.

Participants cannot have multiple simulation windows open simultaneously. This will make for a more fair, challenging and interesting competition. If participants do attempt to run the competition simulation in more than one window, the simulation will lock teams out for a period of one hour. Additionally, to ensure that no advantage was gained by dual windows being opened, the simulation will automatically be reset.

Advisors who previously participated in round one can now log into their advisor accounts and make any necessary changes to VBC teams from round one. Please utilize the same login information to access round two of the Virtual Business Challenge.

If you did not previously participate in DECA’s Virtual Business Challeng, but are an active DECA chapter advisor, an advisor account has been created for you. Please contact Maureen Ginley with Knowledge Matters at for login information.

Chapter advisors must approve each team’s VBC registration for the students to have access to the simulation.

Students who did not participate in round one must register themselves or their team at  Only active DECA chapters will appear in the registration menu. Chapter advisors must approve registrations for students to have access to the simulation.

Students who participated in round one do not need to re-register for round two. However, the chapter advisor will need to approve your team for round two.

The top two teams, per track, per round, will be eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), providing teams meet their chartered association’s rules and regulations. See challenge guidelines for more information on ICDC qualifications. Additionally, the top performing team, per track, per round in each chartered association will receive a certificate of achievement. Student members competing at ICDC may not compete in another ICDC event.
