Mark Your Calendars for the 2018-2019 Virtual Business Challenge

DECA’s Virtual Business Challenge (VBC) is a collection of free, game-like simulations that foster development of career skills in the areas of business, marketing and personal finance. Each simulation challenges students to control their own virtual business, managing tasks such as market research, pricing, financial reporting and more. In partnership with Knowledge Matters, seven unique tracks are available to engage a variety of minds:

  • VBC Accounting
  • VBC Fashion
  • VBC Hotel Management/DECA Hotel Challenge (Presented by the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation)
  • VBC Personal Finance
  • VBC Restaurant
  • VBC Retailing
  • VBC Sports

 

PARTICIPATION

The competition is FREE to all active high school DECA members. The challenge is entirely web-based; no installations or downloads are necessary. Participants will enjoy nearly 100% of the functionality of the classroom simulation.

 

Students may participate individually or in a group of up to three members from the same DECA chapter. Students may only be a member of one team per track. Each individual or team can participate in as many tracks as they would like.

 

The DECA Virtual Business Challenge will consist of two rounds: the first beginning October 23, 2018 and the second beginning January 08, 2019. Each round will last 11 days.

 

REGISTRATION

Students may register themselves or their team on October 09, 2018. Only active DECA chapters will appears in the registration menu. To confirm your chapter’s membership status, please contact membership@deca.org. Chapter advisors must approve registrations for students to have access to the simulation.

 

All active chapter advisors will have access to the challenge simulation software on October 09, 2018If you are new to DECA’s VBC, an advisor account will be created for you. If you already have an online account, please continue to use the same log in information to access your account.

 

RECOGNITION

The top two teams, per track, per round will be eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), providing teams meet their chartered association’s rules and regulations. See challenge guidelines for more information on ICDC qualifications. Additionally, the top performing team, per track, per round in each chartered association will receive a certificate of achievement. Student members competing at ICDC may not compete in another ICDC event.

 

 

TIMELINE

  • Registration Opens – October 09, 2018
  • Round 1 Begins – October 23, 2018 @ 10:00 AM ET
  • Round 1 Ends – November 02, 2018 @ 5:00 PM ET
  • Round 2 Begins – January 08, 2019 @ 10:00 AM ET
  • Round 2 Ends – January 18, 2019 @ 5:00 PM ET
