How Do Puppies & Community Service Go Together?

As part of DECA’s guiding principles, being community oriented is important aspect to any DECA chapter.

Here are a few easy and creative community service projects for the spring semester!

1. Puppy Booth

Get connected with a local animal shelter and open up a petting booth during finals week. Stressed students can pet a dog for $1 to raise money for the shelter.

2. Helping the Environment

Get out of school and clean up trash at a local park or river. This is a great way to help the environment as well as getting students outside and enjoying the community.

3. Saying Thank You

Send a package or cards to deployed troops, veterans, wounded soldiers or first-responders through organizations such as Operation Gratitude.

4. Collecting Books

Collect children’s books and other reading materials for shelters, libraries and schools, then ask if they need volunteer readers.

5. Change for Change

In your school store ask if your customers would like to donate their extra change for a charity. If you do not have a school store ask a local business to participate.

There are so many ways to take an afternoon and make it impactful. Make sure to share on social media how your chapter is giving back to your community by tagging @decainc on Twitter and Instagram!
