Develop Skills for Career Success with DECA’s Virtual Business Challenges!

DECA’s Virtual Business Challenges (VBC), brought to you by Knowledge Matters, is a unique opportunity for students to develop management and industry-specific skills in the career areas of finance, hospitality and tourism, marketing and personal financial literacy.

From promoting fashion trends on social media in VBC Fashion to filing taxes in VBC Personal Finance, there is a challenge to pique the interest of almost every student.

DECA’s Virtual Business Challenge tracks include:

  • VBC Accounting
  • VBC Fashion (NEW)
  • VBC Hotel Management/DECA Hotel Challenge
    • Presented by the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriot Foundation
  • VBC Personal Finance
  • VBC Restaurant
  • VBC Retailing
  • VBC Sports

This lively, virtual simulation is FREE to all active high school DECA members. No installations or downloads are necessary to participate in any of the challenges. Challenge participants will even enjoy almost 100% of the functionality of the classroom simulation.

Students may participate individually or in a group of up to three members from the same DECA chapter. Each team can engage in as many tracks as they would like at the same time as long as each participant is not a member of more than one team in a specific track.

Students may register their team on October 10, 2017. Chapter advisors must approve each team’s VBC registration for the students to have access to the simulation.

All active chapter advisors will have access to the challenge simulation software on October 10, 2017. If you are new to DECA’s Virtual Business Challenge, an advisor account will be created for you. You will not have access to VBC courses until October 10, 2017. If you already have an online Virtual Business account, please continue to use the same log in information you normally use to access your account. The VBC courses will automatically appear on October 10, 2017.

Students may engage in two rounds of the DECA Virtual Business Challenge. This year, each round will last 11 days. This newly abbreviated time frame will encourage students to focus on making impactful decisions for their virtual business. Learn more about the changes made to this year’s VBC competition here.

The top performing team, per track, in each chartered association will receive a certificate recognizing their achievement. Additionally, the top two teams, per track, in each region from both Round 1 and Round 2 will be eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC), providing you meet your chartered association rules and regulations. See challenge guidelines for more information on ICDC qualifications.
