A Beginner’s Guide to DECA

With over 225,000 members in all 50 states and even outside the U.S., DECA seems overwhelming at first. Trust me I’ve been there, but DECA has lots to offer and each member has their own personal experience at the end.

Here are some things I wish I knew when I started DECA.

You get to find your niche.

With six different clusters of events and over 25 events there is something that is just perfect for you!

You get out what you put in.

With DECA you have the opportunity to experience the organization in many capacities. DECA can be a place after school to meet new friends and learn about business or you can compete and travel. You can customize your DECA experience by your interests, availability and work/school load.

There are so many networking opportunities.

In DECA you will meet students from your school, state and even across the globe! Not only will you be speaking with other students, you will also get to talk with industry professionals and colleges.

DECA will forever be a connection.

Whether you’re sporting a cool DECA tee from DECA Images or DECA is written on your resume, someone is bound to notice. It is always a great conversation starter even if the person has never heard of it!

As you enter your first year of DECA always remember it is a place to make friends, network and grow as a learner and a professional. Welcome to DECA!
