Spanish River DECA Helps Save a Life With the Heart to Heart Foundation

Roberto Machorro-Swain | Spanish River DECA

During every school year, Spanish River DECA works to ensure that its members are successful, but this isn’t the only caring that Spanish River DECA does.

Our chapter organizes and participates in various fundraisers throughout the year. In the spring of 2016, advisor Deb Carter helped us get in touch with her sister, Karen Carrington. Karen runs a charity in Shanghai called the Heart to Heart Foundation, and with her help, Spanish River DECA raised over $3,000.

The money we raised was then donated to a young girl in the Ali region of Tibet. Ci Ren Zhou Ga is nine years old and was born with a heart defect. This past spring, the money our DECA chapter raised was donated to her through the Shanghai Charity Foundation, and Ci Ren Zhou Ga was able to undergo heart surgery at the Yodak Thoracic Hospital in Shanghi.

This life-operation took place on July 6 and Spanish River DECA is happy to report that it was fully successful! Within a few weeks, Ci Ren Zhou Ga will return to her family in Tibet and live a more comfortable life with a stronger heart.

While Ci Ren Zhou Ga was helped, there are plenty of others who are still in need. This is why on behalf of my chapter and the Heart to Heart Foundation, I ask you to visit www.h2hsh.com to learn more about how you and your chapter and help those in need.
