The 3 Keys to a Successful Program of Leadership
You might have heard three seemingly daunting words, or may have heard lots of reference to an item called the “POL.”
The Program of Leadership is a simply an agenda created by a leadership team at the chapter or state level which clearly defines a team’s goals and objectives throughout the year.
Here are my top three tips to creating a success program of leadership:
1. Make sure all components of your POL are SMART.
When creating program of leadership, you want to make sure all of your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, and relevant. Creating SMART goals will guarantee that you are able to complete these goals and they will true to the organization.
2. Make sure the entire team is involved.
When creating a Program of Leadership, it is crucial that the entire team contributes to the POL and each team member specifically creates goals that they want to achieve. When members contribute their own ideas, they are more willing to work towards these goals. It’s also extremely important that you focus on small goals.
3. Get ready to plan once your POL is created.
We have all been there, we create lots of goals, but then we get busy! It’s extremely helpful to create specific deadlines for each part of your program of Leadership and then have smaller deadlines for each goal. For example, if your goal was to have more social activities during the school year for your chapter you would have specific deadlines for each activity, but also smaller deadlines when you would complete other task like ordering pizza or sending out invitations.
