What Is Being a DECA Inc. Executive Officer Really Like?

Campaigning for a position on the Executive Officer Team is no easy task, but the reward for those of you who are elected at DECA’s International Career Development Conference will be life changing.

As you embark on this journey, we wanted to share with you some of our experiences from this past year as executive officers.

It has certainly been a magical ride for each of us, and we encourage you to watch the videos below to hear us explain some of our favorite moments during our terms as officers!

Donald LeCompte | DECA Inc. Executive President

“There is little that I have enjoyed more this year than interacting with members of DECA’s National Advisory Board (NAB). I’ve been able to make amazing connections with so many of our corporate partners and I’ve had many opportunities to thank them for their support of DECA.”

Emily Fraser | North Atlantic Region Vice President

“One of the most amazing parts of being an executive officer is the personal leadership development you experience. Whether by perfecting my public speaking, my workshop or my DECA story, this year has taught me that, as a leader, you’re always growing and that every day you can learn something new from the people around you.”

Victoria Meng | Southern Region Vice President

“One of my favorite opportunities was advocating for DECA with national policymakers on Capitol Hill. During our summer training, we met with the offices of congressmen and senators and even visited the US Department of Education. This was an amazing opportunity to share our stories and express the importance of CTE education.”

Brandon Allen | Central Region Vice President

“It would be true to say I’ve had an incredible time traveling around the country, that I’m beyond grateful for the endless networking opportunities, and that the rush of being elected on stage in front of 20,000 people was unforgettable. Yet still, nothing is more supreme than the bonds and relationships I’ve formed with the associations officers within the Central Region. I’ll cherish them for a lifetime.”

Rohan Ghiya | Western Region Vice President

“One of the best and most exciting parts of being an executive officer is the opportunity to network with so many different people. From Google Hangouts, to Regional Council Calls, an Executive Officer has the chance to create such an extensive network that will surely last a lifetime!”

We hope that you enjoy every moment of this process – from the stress of all-nighters as you plan your campaign to the excitement of caucuses and the exhibit hall at #DECAICDC – because running for executive office is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

We wish you the best of luck!

Sincerely,
2016-2017 DECA Inc. Executive Officer Team
