IB Testing Update for #DECAICDC

DECA has been approved by International Baccalaureate to administer the Business Management exam for full Diploma Programme candidates at the DECA International Career Development Conference at the Hilton Anaheim in Anaheim, California, on Friday, April 28, 2017. Only full Diploma Programme candidates are eligible to submit a change of venue request.

DECA continues to receive inquiries about whether their students qualify to request a change of venue. The following is from IB to help clarify.

The IB offers four programmes. The Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP). These four programmes each have their own set of guidelines. Examinations and alternative venues are only relevant to DECA for the DP and the CP. Students in these programmes take a cumulative test at the end of their courses.

First, we will try to clarify the Diploma Programme (DP). As mentioned, there are three categories of students in the DP – anticipated, diploma, and course students. Anticipated candidates are pursuing the full diploma, but are in their first year of the programme. Full diploma students are in their second year and are pursuing the full diploma. As per the handbook of procedures, anticipated and diploma students ARE allowed to request and qualify for an alternative venue. The third type of candidate is a course student. They are taking an IB class but they are not pursing the full diploma. They are NOT allowed to request and qualify for an alternative venue.

Second, we’d like to clarify the Career-related Programme (CP) is separate from the DP. All CP students are allowed to sit at alternative venues for events that qualify.

Therefore, the only students who are not eligible for the alternative venue testing arrangement is students who are considered “course candidates.”

If your DECA members meet the criteria, the two-step instructions for requesting the alternative venue can be found here

The deadline to submit the alternative venue request is April 7, 2017.
