Looking for a Unique Fundraising Idea?

Recently, Stewarts Creek DECA partnered with HOSA to host a 5th Quarter 5K.

Why’s it called a 5th Quarter 5K? Well because the 5K took place after the fourth quarter of the football game!

Our 5th Quarter 5K also had a zombie glow run theme to make it even more fun for participants. We had multiple zombies set up at each water station handing out the water to the runners.

We also used social media to promote the event with the hashtag #5Q5K45, which stands for 5th Quarter 5K for 5 Different Charities.

The five different charities we helped from the 5K included: Leukemia Lymphoma Society, A.R.E., A Soldier’s Child, Candle Wishes, and American Diabetes Association.

Some of the proceeds went to these five different charities and the rest of the proceeds were split between DECA and HOSA.

DECA took care of reaching out to the local media, putting up flyers, ordering t-shirts, and registering all participants. HOSA took care of figuring out the route, water stations, volunteer sign ups, and finding people to direct traffic.

By partnering with another organization, it allowed the work load to be split and get another perspective on things. We started the planning process a month in advanced to give us give time to get everything planned out.

Each year when we look back at the event we find things that need to be altered or tweaked and that is all part of the learning process. By looking back at the event it allows you to do things differently for the next year.
