DECA Idea Challenge 2016 is right around the corner, and young entrepreneurs around the world can hardly wait for this opportunity to showcase their creative talents!

H_Donald_LeCompteThe DECA Idea Challenge is a unique activity in which teams of 3-5 students are tasked with finding an innovative new use for a commonplace item. After coming up with an innovative use for the item, each team will pitch their idea in a 3-minute YouTube video presentation, and the top team from each of the three age groups will receive cash prizes!

One thing that’s unique about this program is that although it is organized by DECA Inc., membership in DECA is not a requirement to participate. That means that by taking part, you truly are going up against some of the most creative minds from across the globe!

What is the mystery item for the 2016 challenge, you ask? Well it’s just that – a mystery! Past mystery items have included cardboard boxes, newspaper, and aluminum beverage cans, but this year’s item will remain a mystery until it is announced by DECA Inc. on November 10, 2016.

Although the item won’t be revealed until November 10, you can still use this time to create your team, develop a game plan, and think of creative ways that you can get your fellow DECA members involved. Some ideas to do this include creating an after-school competition for members to take part or encouraging your teachers to incorporate the Idea Challenge into their lessons.

If you want a little bit of inspiration to get your creative juices following, check out these tips from the 2015 winning teams, and also be sure to read the 2016 Toolkit for specific requirements and evaluation details.

Don’t forget to share your experience on social media using #DECAIdeaChallenge and #GEW2016. We can’t wait to see what incredible creations you come up with!
