Are You Ready for the DECA Idea Challenge?

Are you searching for a hands-on activity for students to exercise their creativity and get a taste of the entrepreneurial thinking process? Look no further than the DECA Idea Challenge!

adrienne_burdaThe DECA Idea Challenge is a fast-paced learning activity that challenges student teams around the globe to find an innovative, new use for a commonplace item in just eight days. Student teams are asked collaborate to generate a novel product as well as pitch their invention in a creative, 3-minute YouTube video presentation.

The challenge item will remain a mystery until revealed by DECA Inc. on November 10, 2016. Submissions are due November 17, 2016, by 11:59 PM EST.

The competition is a premier event of Global Entrepreneurship Week, an international celebration where individuals can explore their potential as innovators through local, national and global activities that connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors, investors and opportunities.

Students compete in the following three educational categories:

  • Elementary or Middle School
  • High School
  • College or University

Each global winning team, will be featured on both DECA Inc. and Global Entrepreneurship Week’s websites as well as receive a monetary award.

In participating, students will develop the following skills essential for life and work in the 21st century:

  • Teamwork in collaborating and assuming various leadership roles.
  • Problem-solving and creativity while brainstorming a new use for the challenge item.
  • Critical thinking in engineering a high-quality product.
  • Communication by effectively showcasing the new product.
