Among the many events that happen during the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference, the Professional Development Academies are one way to gain valuable insight on career pathways from various business professionals and organizations.
The Hospitality + Tourism track included a session from Beverly Wood, a recruitment manager for Chipotle.
Ms. Wood described the company’s vision and their mission to change the fast food industry, from the way people eat to the way people work.
The people culture is an integral part of the company, and Wood went over the 13 characteristics that Chipotle looks for to be instilled in potential employees:
- High energy
- Infectiously enthusiastic
While these 13 qualities are essential to becoming a top performer at Chipotle, they are also relevant to any individual, especially those striving for a career in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Overall, if a company has a way to continually innovate and has a goal to positively impact others, both the employees and consumers can capitalize on the far and fulfilling path that a clear mission will lead to.
