DECA Hospitality Students—Check Out These Hospitality Scholarships

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) can help fund your education and jump-start your hospitality career.

This year AH&LEF has budgeted more than $860,000 in scholarships to award to a few hundred students. Of special interest to DECA high school students is that more than $100,000 is set aside specifically for incoming freshman.

Scholarship awards range from $500 to $6,000, and unlike a loan, that money never needs to be paid back. The May 1 deadline is quickly approaching, so don’t miss out on your chance to earn a share of these scholarship funds.

AH&LEF scholarships offers a wide array of scholarship opportunities – available for incoming freshmen through graduate students. Some are earmarked specifically for current hotel employees and others for minorities. A few have a minimum GPA requirements, while others are open to full or part-time students. All require enrollment in a U.S. hospitality management degree granting program.

Don’t think you GPA or financial need is high enough? Think again. Students are not judged on one factor alone. You’ll be evaluated on academics, hospitality work experience, extracurricular activities, financial need, honors, and personal attributes.

AH&LEF scholarship recipients also receive a free, one-year student membership to the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Having an AH&LEF scholarship on your resume has been known to open doors and give you that coveted job interview. AH&LEF recipients also gain access to key industry leaders and CEOs.

Interested students can apply online or download the application from AH&LEF’s website at May 1 is the deadline for all of AH&LEF academic scholarship programs.
