DECA Scholarship FAQs

DECA and its corporate partners donate over $300,000 in scholarships to members each year.

To help you understand DECA's scholarship process better, check out these frequently asked questions and get the answers you need to win an EPIC scholarship this year! ‚Äč

Q: How can I apply for DECA Scholarship?

A: Go to www.deca.org/scholarships to apply.

Q: Do I have to be a current DECA member to apply for DECA Scholarships?

A: Yes, you must be a current DECA member to be eligible for DECA scholarships.

Q: Whom do I contact if I forget my user name and/or password?

A: Click on the link within the scholarship site, email Rosa_Bellido@deca.org or call DECA at 703 860-5000 x 248.

Q: Does my profile information export over to the scholarship applications?

A: Yes, data will be carried over from your Student Profile to automatically fill in certain fields (i.e. name, address, school, DECA involvement, etc.).

Q: Does my advisor have access to my profile?

A: No, your profile is strictly confidential unless you provide the advisor with your user id and password.

Q: How much information should I include in the profile for DECA activities?

A: You should include as much as possible, especially on the DECA activities.

Q: Do I have to be a high school DECA senior to apply?

A: No, only if the scholarship application specifically specifies that you must be a high school senior. Additionally, some scholarships are for DECA Collegiate members.

Q: Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

A: Yes, providing you meet the criteria for that particular scholarship.

Q: Are DECA scholarships based on financial need?

A: No, most of DECA scholarships are merit-based.

Q: Do I have to be an employee or child of the corporate sponsored scholarships?

A: Yes, some of our donors such as Publix, NAPA, Walgreens, Marriott International, and Journeys do give special attention to applicants who work for them. Check out www.deca.org/scholarships.

Q: Are there scholarships specifically for School-Based Enterprises?

A: Yes, Arytza (Otis Spunkmeyer) does provide SBE scholarships.

Q: Do I have to be interested in a particular career or industry for some scholarships?

A: Yes, some may include AICPA, NAPA, Marriott International, and NFIB. Check out www.deca.org/scholarships to learn more.

Q: Does DECA’s NAB colleges/universities offer scholarships to their institutions?

A: Yes, some of the institutions are Lindenwood University, Northwood University, The Art Institutes, Berkeley College, Johnson & Wales University, Wesleyan University, FIDM/Fashion Institute Design & Merchandising, and FIU. Check out www.deca.scholarships.org.

Q: What is the deadline to submit my application?

A: The deadline to submit your application is January 15, 2016.

Q: Once my application is submitted can I go back in and make changes?

A: No, once you submit your application you cannot make any further changes.

Q: Are any materials required to be mailed by the January 15 deadline?

A: No, DECA will contact you if you make the qualifying round which will be after January 15, 2016.

Q: What happens if I make the qualifying round?

A: DECA will notify you via email and as well as through the postal mail that you have made the qualifying round and provide you the list of additional materials required.

Q: What materials need to be submitted if I make the qualifying round?

A: DECA will notify you via email of these materials along with the deadline for submission.

Q: What happens if I haven’t taken my ACT/SAT?

A: You must include a statement indicating so.

Q: What is deadline for submitting my supporting materials?

A: DECA will notify you of the deadline once it is determined that you have made the qualifying round.

Q: If I have qualified for more than one scholarship, should I send just one packet of the requested documents?

A: No, you must send a complete packet for each scholarship. However, they can all be mailed together in one envelope.

Q: Do my materials need to be received or postmarked by the deadline date?

A: Materials must be received at DECA Inc. by the deadline date.

Q: Can I fax my supporting materials if I make the qualifying round?

A: No, all materials must be mailed to DECA Inc. (1908 Association Dr. Reston, VA 20191).

Q: How will I know if I win a scholarship?

A: DECA will notify your chapter advisor and you will also receive a letter in the mail.

Q: Do I have to attend DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) if I win a scholarship?

A: No, you do not need to attend ICDC.

Q: Should I win a scholarship, do I get to meet the sponsor and/or be able to send a thank you letter?

A: Yes, you will be able to meet the sponsor if you attend ICDC. DECA will also send you a letter with the sponsor's contact information.

Q: Can I use the scholarship if I am a part-time student?

A: No, you must be enrolled as a full-time student at a college/university.

Q: Can my scholarship be deferred?

A: Yes, for up to three years.

Q: Where are the scholarship monies sent?

A: Monies are sent directly to the college/university that you will be attending in the fall.

Q: How does DECA know where to send the scholarship monies?

A: DECA will send you a letter with a form to complete requesting this information.
