Herff Jones Challenge Offers Marketing Competition with Amazing Travel Opportunities
Looking for a way to allow more members to compete?
Love opportunities to collaborate with other groups on campus?
Interested in networking with other DECA chapters?
Wish someone would pay your way to ICDC?
No matter what your motivation is, the Herff Jones Marketing Results Challenge might be an answer for your chapter. This new challenge calls for DECA teams to analyze yearbook sales on their campuses and create a marketing plan to make a difference in both book sales and the buy rate.
If your chapter is large, this challenge might be a way to get additional students or rising leaders involved in major competition. After the December 5, 2015, deadline for written and video components, Herff Jones will name three teams as finalists. The top three teams will travel to Palm Desert, Calif., in January to do presentations for the company’s sales and marketing leaders and compete for the top prize: a $5,000 travel award to attend the 2016 DECA International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tenn., in April for on-stage, general session recognition.
In addition to the presentation, the finalists will do a question and answer session with the judges, participate in a marketing focus group, meet sales and marketing professionals attending the Herff Jones International Sales Conference and have a chance to network with other DECA members.
Whether this challenge is a warm-up for other competitions or a chance for additional students to be involved, it’s a chance for DECA students to work with another group on campus. It’s well-known that creative students often join yearbook because it offers another outlet for their writing, design and photography. While some are enthusiastic about marketing and sales, that’s not always the case. The same is many times true for yearbook advisers, whose passions might be design, visual communication, editing or history. That’s where your students have the chance to shine and contribute; they are definitely the most knowledgeable marketers on campus.
