4 Tips for Utilizing the EPIC SBE Poster

Be sure to keep an eye out for your School-based Enterprise poster arriving in your mail box this fall!

This EPIC new poster will help guide your progress for completing the SBE Chapter Certification project this school year.

Hang it up in your classroom and SBE team members can track deadlines, visualize progress, and stay on track to earning a Gold Certification. Gain recognition for your school-based enterprise by documenting all the hard work your SBE already does on a daily basis!

Here are a few tips for utilizing the SBE poster:

  1. Establish a writing team. Decide early what DECA members will work on this project and assign a head writer for each of the required sections. The head writer could be responsible for compiling all the research and supplemental information (photos, financial statements, etc.) for their section, writing the rough draft, and proofreading the final draft. Write the name of the head writer on top of each standard.
  2. Review the SBE Learning Units to brush up on each of the featured project standards. There’s a unit available for each of the 10 standards and they cover all the pertinent topics related to the information you’ll document in the written project. The head writer for each section could complete the unit for their section, or the whole writing team could review the unit as a group. (The learning units are also a great way to prep for the SBE Certification Exam!) Check off the Learning Unit box for each standard as you complete them.
  3. Establish deadlines. Set date goals for completion of your first round drafts (well in advance of the project due date!) Give yourself plenty of time for revisions and time for merging each individual section into the final finished draft. Also set a deadline for completion of the final draft, including all final edits. This date should also be in advance of the project deadline to allow time for troubleshooting any issues that might arise. Write in the deadline date for rough draft and final draft for each standard – or check off the box when it’s complete.
  4. Submit early! The online submission website will be open and ready for you to upload and submit your project by December 1, 2015. Submitting your project prior to the final due date of January 15, 2016 is advised, since only the first 200 projects submitted and earning gold in each SBE category (food operations or retail operations) will be able to attend the 2016 International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tenn., for the SBE Academy and competition due to space limitations.

If you’re already a Gold Certified SBE and you’re completing the Re-certification project, you’ll only need to complete the 3 standards that are starred on the poster (Market Planning, Product/Service Management, and Selling).
