How Big is a Billion?

A billion dollars.

This is how much money is left on the table when people do their own taxes.

That’s like $500 on every seat in every professional football stadium in America or $300 for every public school teacher in the U.S., or enough to buy a car for you and 35,000 of your closest friends!

H&R Block and Dollars & Sense is giving away $18,000 in classroom grants to see how teachers and students come up with ways to illustrate the math concept of a billion dollars. Students will submit their ideas for “How Big is a Billion” with a photo and explanation with supportive research of their billion dollar concept through March 14, 2014.

H&R Block is awarding first, second and third place prizes of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000 in classroom grants to submissions in each grade tier for grades 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Teachers may submit up to eight entries on behalf of their classrooms so consider having a competition in your classroom and sending us your best!

The first 50 entries will receive a $50 complimentary gift card for school supplies.
