Membership Soars After Initial Deadline

Membership rolled in last week just in time for the November 15 initial deadline. Overall, DECA’s membership is up considerably compared to last year’s initial deadline. We applaud our local chapters and chartered associations for their work to provide the benefits of DECA to so many students, alumni and professionals. The good news is that membership can be added year-round, keeping in mind the March 1 deadline for competitor eligibility at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) and guidelines per your association.

Here's a look at the current association standings:

Here are some chapter membership perks:

  • Chapters can earn recognition in DECA’s Membership Campaign, including allocations to attend ICDC in Atlanta, Ga.* Check out the details here and submit additional members by November 29, for recognition.
  • Be recognized as the largest chapter in your association. The chapter leading in membership as of March 1* in each association will be recognized during the Leadership Luncheon at the DECA ICDC.
  • Be recognized as the chapter with the largest membership increase in your association. If you don't have a large chapter, you can still earn recognition during the Leadership Luncheon at the DECA ICDC by being the chapter in your association showing the largest membership increase on March 1*.
  • Be the largest DECA chapter in the world!  Recruit students, alumni and professionals to earn the ultimate recognition: the largest DECA chapter in the world! The Top 10 DECA chapters as of March 1* will be recognized during the Leadership Luncheon at the DECA ICDC in Atlanta.

*Consult your association advisor for guidelines for attending ICDC. Recognition at ICDC will be based on membership reports as of March 1, 2014. Final membership rankings will be based on membership reports as of June 30, 2014.

Here are some chartered association membership perks:

  • Each chartered association receives one additional competitive event allocation (good for a single event at the 2014 ICDC) for every 50-member increase over its last year’s membership total.
  • Hitting total chartered association membership of 1,000, 2,000, 3,000, 4,500, 6,000, 7,000, 8,500, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000 or 14,000 could mean extra competitive event allocations in either the principles/TDM/series events or written events at the 2015 ICDC.
