DECA Names Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Ed Davis
After a legendary career with DECA, Dr. Edward L. Davis has announced his retirement as executive director.
Davis began his DECA career as a member of Georgia DECA. After a stint in private industry, he became a marketing instructor and DECA advisor. Later, he served as state advisor for West Virginia DECA. From there, he joined the DECA staff, first as associate executive director, and for the past 20 years has served as the executive director.
Under Davis’s leadership:
- DECA chapters and membership have grown by 55%
- DECA partnerships have grown by 2,000%
- Program rigor and relevance has made DECA one of the most prestigious national education partners for business
Davis truly understands the purpose and value of DECA and has created the vision for the premiere organization DECA is today.
In honor of his extraordinary leadership, the DECA Inc. Board of Directors authorized the establishment of the Dr. Edward L. Davis Scholarship Fund. Initially, the fundraising campaign focused on DECA’s National Advisory Board and chartered associations. DECA has since received requests from teachers, alumnae and others who’ve worked with Davis, asking if they could also contribute. Those of you who know Davis know that nothing would touch him more.
Davis’s number-one priority has always been to provide opportunity and scholarships for young people, so a named scholarship, supported by everyone his work has impacted, would be an absolutely fitting tribute to his record of accomplishment and personal legacy.
DECA welcomes your contribution to this important campaign. The first award will be presented at the 2014 DECA International Career Development Conference, in Atlanta, Ga.
