DECA Association Leaders Unite in Atlanta

The 2013 DECA Association Management Conference (#DECAAMC) was held in Atlanta, Ga., August 15-17. DECA’s association advisors from the high school and collegiate divisions came together, in the 2014 DECA International Career Development Conference host city, to share ideas, discuss best practices and prepare for an exciting new year.

The tradition of an annual meeting of association leaders began over 25 years ago and continues to be a part of DECA’s commitment to strengthen and empower its association advisors. Twenty of the 113 attendees as this year’s conference were first-timers and certainly relished in the opportunity to learn from many veteran advisors.

Some of the objectives for this year’s meeting included:

  • Update association leaders on DECA Inc. programs
  • Update association leaders on association management practices
  • Allow association leaders an opportunity to provide input into DECA Inc. programs and activities
  • Preview the 2014 International Career Development Conference site, hotels and conference plans
  • Discuss the strategic goals for DECA Inc. looking forward to 2017

This year’s #DECAAMC wasn't all work though! Association advisors had plenty of opportunities to enjoy some of Atlanta’s best tourist attractions including attending an Atlanta Brave’s game, participating in a murder mystery dinner show and exploring the Georgia Aquarium. Keynote speaker, Eddie Slowikowski, also entertained advisors with his talented dance moves, and got some advisors up on their feet too, as well as took advisors back in time as he shared his life story through music. He encouraged DECA advisors to believe, conceive and achieve dreams and visions.

DECA documented the happenings of this year’s conference on social media, so make sure to check DECA Inc.’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the best information and photos.

DECA knows that the success of its chapters, and in turn the entire organization, relies on the hard work and dedication of its association leaders. DECA is excited to introduce new and innovative practices for advisors to take back to their associations and hopes to see each and every state and chapter Make It Count this year!
