DECA Makes Partnerships Count

DECA Inc. has a National Advisory Board made up of over 60 businesses and organizations, with plans to grow this group of amazing supporters.

During the National Officer Team’s recent training at DECA Inc. headquarters, the team had the opportunity to visit with Ben Cumbo, the former National Goodwill Ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Ben, a 24 year-old graduate from St. Mary’s College in Maryland, stopped by with his father, a member of MDA’s Board of Directors, to discuss the partnership between our two organizations and to thank DECA for the continued support we provide.

DECA members like you help raise nearly half a million dollars every year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. MDA is DECA's most important social-business partner and has served on the National Advisory Board and Executive Committee since 1981. Meeting Ben and his father was truly an amazing experience that highlighted the significance of supporting this charitable organization.

Our team also took a tour of the headquarters of one of DECA’s largest partners in hospitality, Marriott International. Hosted by Marriott’s Senior Corporate Manager, Andy Chaves, the team was able to see a variety of unique locations within Marriott’s headquarters, including Marriott’s Innovations Lab where new products and designs are created and tested for implementation into Marriott’s over 20 unique brands.

A highlight of our visit was meeting with Marriot’s Global Account Executive, Carson Edwards, to discuss how he manages the company’s multitude of association accounts while staying strategically competitive. We then visited with Maruiel Perkins-Chavis, Marriott’s Vice President of Workforce Effectiveness and Diversity, to discuss how Marriott stays competitive internationally and helps employees accommodate the dozens of cultures Marriott hotels operate amongst in over 70 countries.

Finally, the team sat down with David Traina, Marriott’s Vice President of Global Market Talent Acquisition Services, to discuss the different characteristics of Marriott’s employees, and how Marriott effectively provides opportunity to each and every one of its 300,000 associates.

One of the National Officer Team’s major goals this year is to connect with more NAB partners than ever before. Thank you to MDA and Marriott International for meeting with the entire National Officer Team and inspiring us to make DECA’s NAB partnerships count this year.
