The True DECA Experience

What is the true DECA experience?

Each year, DECA Inc. strives to answer this question through the production of a promotional video to expand outreach, increase interest and answer questions about the organization. However, this year DECA Inc. wanted to specifically showcase all that DECA has to offer by creating a video from the very unique perspective of DECA members themselves.

In order to capture this perspective, Clayton Carter, a film director from Cybis Communications, came to South Forsyth High School. Located in Cumming, Ga., South Forsyth DECA has been named the largest DECA chapter in the world for the past five consecutive years. At this year’s International Career Development Conference, South Forsyth was again named one of the largest chapters in the world, boasting an impressive 1,020+ members.

In order to capture the unique perspective of the DECA members, Clayton used a Go Pro camera for this year’s promotional video filming. This camera is unique because it attaches to the subject’s body and films as if it was looking through the subject’s eyes.

The camera jumped from member to members throughout the day to capture all aspects of DECA. Although uncomfortable at first, students were eager to wear the camera and to be a part of this video.

The first event for the day of filming was a chapter meeting. South Forsyth DECA holds monthly meetings, led by chapter officers, where upcoming events are discussed and members are encouraged to get involved with various chapter activities.

The camera followed a student attending a meeting, and as they day went on filmed the other aspects of being a DECA member. Some of the day’s highlights were showcasing the South Forsyth DECA school store, practicing a role-play and giving a competitive event presentation.

South Forsyth DECA was truly honored to be selected as the setting for this year’s promotional video. The true DECA experience is really just being surrounded and supported by a group of exceptional peers, all striving to be the best, accomplish unprecedented goals and of course, Make It Count.
