Missouri DECA Students Honored at State Capitol

Missouri DECA students earned the organization’s highest honors in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, hospitality, and management competition at the annual International Career Development Conferences in Anaheim, California.

Eleven Missouri DECA members were recognized at the annual Excellence in Marketing Education reception at the State Capitol at on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. These members attained top 10 or higher honors during competition.

The 11 members recognized were:

    Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Event, Top 10
  • Kaylee Chappelow and Christian Spinler, Blue Springs High School
    Travel and Tourism Team Decision Event, Top 10
  • Hannah Gordon, Fox High School
    Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling, Top 10
  • Ashley Kloepper and Alexandria Wilson, Francis Howell Central High School
    Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Event, Top 10
  • Shelby Steingraeber, Francis Howell High School
    Sports and Entertainment Series Event, Top 10
  • Samantha Huston and Jasmine Tapia, Saline County Career Center
    Creative Marketing Project, 3rd  Place
  • Nate Henry, School of Osage High School
    Sports and Entertainment Operations Research, Top 10
  • William Hill, Sikeston Career and Tech Center
    Principles of Hospitality and Tourism Series, Top 10
  • Keegan Kendrick and Zach Wolf, Smith Cotton High School
    Entrepreneurship – Growing Your Business, 2nd place
  • Michael Pugh and Joseph Rodewald, Smith Cotton High School
    Virtual Business, Top 10

Two Missouri DECA chapters were also acknowledged for their contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Waynesville Career Center and Rolla High School were recognized for the DECA chapter’s first and second-largest international contribution of more than $50,000.
