Investing in Tomorrow’s Future

The #summerofdeca keeps on rolling as members of the DECA Inc. staff, Board of Directors and corporate partners participated in the 15th Annual Fairfax County Marketing Advisory Board Golf Tournament held at Virginia Oaks Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.

The tournament featured not only an 18-hole golf game, but also a putting competition, a silent auction and raffle prizes, as well as food and plenty of fun.

The money raised during the tournament goes to scholarships given out to marketing students from Fairfax County on behalf of the advisory board.

“Since the advisory board began in 1998, over 130 students have benefited from these scholarships and over $260,000 has been donated,” said Amy Granahan, marketing education program manager for Fairfax County Public Schools.

Granahan also mentioned how year after year, the DECA members who apply and interview for these scholarships continue to impress her with their professionalism, motivation and eagerness to give back to their community.

There was plenty of DECA representation at the tournament this year including two DECA Inc. staff members, Jeff Collins and Frank Peterson, as well as DECA Inc. Board President Jackie Schiller. In addition, Mike Marchetti from Finish Line and Ken DiSaia from Johnson & Wales University also participated in the tournament. Finish Line and Marriott International provided donations.
