An SBE Summer

Monica Hamm, chapter president of Cactus Shadows DECA in Cave Creek, Ariz., will be helping remodel her school-based enterprise this upcoming school year.

Cactus Shawdows’ SBE is moving away from only selling a wide variety of drinks and snacks to become a full-line student store that will also sell school supplies, Cactus Shadows spirit wear, and many other items that to help make a student's school experience better. As you can imagine, changing the entire school store is a huge undertaking and Hamm knows her chapter will need to do a lot of planning over the summer.

Cactus Shadows DECA will form a planning committee responsible for writing up all new orders and organizing the details for remodeling the store. Throughout the summer the entire chapter will be getting together to paint, renovate and re-organize the store before school starts so that it is in top shape for the first day of business!

“It is extremely important to stay connected with your chapter members over the summer,” Hamm recommends. In order to do so, Hamm encourages other chapter presidents to plan fun social activities throughout the summer and invite all chapter members to join.

“At the event, you can talk with all of the members and see what they want to do in the upcoming school year in order to make it a successful one,” she says. “Most importantly, as a president you need to take into consideration what your members want to do throughout the year.”
