“MDA and DECA Partnership – You Can Make A Difference.”

At this year’s Louisiana Career Development Conference, Reverend Frank Friedmann, along with his daughter, Avery, spoke to the delegation about the impact muscular dystrophy has had on their family’s life for the past 15 years. Needless to say, Friedmann’s story touched the heart of every member and advisor in the room and reminded us the importance of the partnership between DECA and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The money raised by DECA chapters and many other organizations goes towards providing support for families affected by neuromuscular disorders, funding for research to find cures, and summer camps for children living with muscular dystrophy.

How Your Chapter Can Help

DECA has two major initiatives in place to provide support for MDA. The first, The Movement, is a program that invites your chapter to serve families within your community who are affected by a neuromuscular disorder, as well as raise funds to support MDA research. To join The Movement, visit Show your support for MDA by reporting your chapter’s community outreach activities and fundraising events. The website also provides ideas shared by other chapters to help you get started.

The second way DECA chapters can help is by participating in the Finish Line/DECA Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk at the International Career Development Conference this April! Whether you walk, run, or just enjoy the outdoor festival, you are showing your support for MDA and helping make the impossible a reality.

At the end of the day, it does not matter how you choose to get involved and just remember that you are making a difference in the lives of many people.
