Top Five Moments from the Finish Line Challenge Finalist Trip – Day 1

1. Being picked up in a limo from the airport.

While the Lakeville South DECA team couldn’t believe the limo driving by was actually for them, the team was a little jealous that the Herriman DECA team had a driver holding a sign with its school name waiting for them at the airport. Overall, all the teams agreed that arriving in style to the airport courtesy of Finish Line was an unforgettable experience.

2. Discussing the hit show “Shark Tank” at dinner with Finish Line Senior Vice President of Store Operations, Greg Beidler.

One of Greg’s favorite shows, as well as many of the finalists and advisors, Shark Tank was a hot topic of discussion. The whole group enjoyed discussing how relevant the show’s content was to aspiring marketers and entrepreneurs like DECA members.

3. Watching everyone struggle to eat the Harry & Izzy’s cocktail sauce.

Their sauce, known to “clear the sinuses,” was given rave reviews by Mike Marchetti, Finish Line Executive Vice President of Store Operations, so no one could turn down a taste! The powerful Worchester might have taken some people for a shock, but it was an experience they won’t forget.

4. Learning about the new partnership between Macy’s and Finish Line.

Mike also gave the dinner table an in-depth explanation about the new Finish Line partnership with Macy’s department stores. Be on the look out for an entirely all-Finish Line shoe section in your nearby Macy’s! All the finalists enjoyed learning about the detailed process and dedicated time that a partnership like this entails.

5. Playing rock-paper-scissors to decide the presentation order for tomorrow.

The finalists battled it out over the dinner table in a heated game of rock-paper-scissors to decide the presentation order for tomorrow. Joel Varghese won the first round, and decided to claim the last presentation slot for Lakeville South DECA, while Joan Hong won the next round for Amador Valley DECA, leaving Sarah Burgett and Herriman DECA to be the first ones to start the show Monday morning.
