DECA Alumni Help Motivate Current Members
Take a walk down memory lane and reconnect with your school’s DECA alumni!
This is one of the best ways to help new chapter members think about their future while motivating them to THRIVE in DECA.
In late October, Beverly Hills (Calif.) High School DECA was paid a visit by DECA alumnus Justin Brezhnev (on poster at left). Justin talked to new DECA members about the benefits of DECA, internships, and his position with SellSimple.
Justin was an active member during his time at Beverly Hills DECA. He was known for his “extreme enthusiasm,” as it was described by advisor Alberta Wilder. Alberta also praised Justin’s dedication, outgoing personality, and work ethic.
Justin competed in Sports and Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Making at the 2010 International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. He was chapter president during his senior year and is now attending UCLA, where he is pursuing a degree in communications.
Although his time as a DECA member at Beverly Hills has long passed, DECA has nonetheless remained part of Justin’s life. He connected with a former supervisor over DECA, as they were both alumni of the organization. Because of this, his first interview quickly went from a formal meeting to a pleasant stroll down memory lane!
Justin currently works for an up-and-coming business called SellSimple. The company produces a free app that allows users to easily sell items in all major online marketplaces including Ebay, Craigslist, Amazon, Etsy, and more. All it takes is a few photos and clicks of your mouse, and your item is ready to sell in a matter of minutes.
DECA alumni are valuable resources for every chapter, so make sure to get them involved. DECA alumni are relatable and will inspire in your members newfound motivation to make the most of their DECA experiences. Get old and new members acquainted with alumni through a DECA social. Or invite alumni to come in and speak with members before competition. Not to mention, with 20 alumni members you will have finished half of the membership campaign which, once completed, could earn your chapter three spots at the Thrive Academy at ICDC 2013! So get to it, and get your alumni involved today!
