DECA Collegiate Division Competitive Event Changes 2018-2019

The following changes have been proposed by the Collegiate Task Force and approved by the DECA Inc. Board of Directors for the 2018-2019 membership year. Complete descriptions of these changes will be reflected in the new Collegiate DECA Competitive Events Guide to be published in August 2018.

An event titled Entrepreneurship Operations has been added. This new event will be offered as an Individual Case Study; therefore, an exam will accompany the case study. The description for the new Entrepreneurship Operations event will be as follows: The case scenarios will address daily operations of entrepreneurship which may include human resources, cash flow management, and customer service management.

The Banking Financial Services event has been deleted following the review of the overall competitive event offerings in the area of Finance and Accounting. The goal is to offer a broader event that would serve more students.

Managerial Accounting will be added as an Individual Case Study event. The focus and content of this event will be decision-making and analysis from an internal point of view. Concepts from the previous Banking Financial Services event can still be reflected in this new event (decision-making on loans, for instance).

The name of the “Accounting” Individual Case Study event has been changed to Financial Accounting. This name change better reflects the content of the case study.
