Why Marriott is an Amazing Company to Work For

At the 2017 Collegiate DECA ENGAGE conference, attendees on the Hospitality & Tourism Track visited the Marriott Marquis hotel right in the heart of Times Square. In fact, they have a balcony that overlooks the ball dropping during New Year’s Eve!

The property is stunning, but the company culture is even better. Here’s why:

1. Employees care about their guests.

There’s a saying at Marriott that goes all the way back to Marriott founder, J. Willard Marriott, who said, “Take care of the associates, and they’ll take care of the guests.” You can clearly see how dedicated the employees are, from opening the door for guests and greeting guests to and from the elevator. Even the camaraderie between employees from different departments is admirable and enviable.

2. Ability to travel the world.

With the recent Starwood acquisition, the Marriott brand now has so many international brands. Transferring from property to property through positions is common at Marriott, and the company is always looking for expatriates. Marriott is represented in 126 countries, so you can have a whole career in Marriott and travel the world doing so.

3. Amazing management development program.

Marriott has a program called Voyager, which is 12 to 18 months of serving as an assistant manager, then moving on to a different property as a manager. It is only available to applicants right out of college, which is great for students. This is a very exclusive program, but there are many focus areas, so find the one that fits you and work hard throughout college to exemplify why you are the right fit.
