How to Make Sure You Make The Stage At #DECAICDC 2018

Maybe you’ve just seen photos, or watched the livestream. Maybe you were there to feel the nearly tangible energy as a booming announcer’s voice called select individuals to the stage.

Maybe—just maybe—you were one of those lucky few.

Whatever the case, everyone fortunate enough to call themselves a part of this organization knows exactly what I’m talking about: the chance to hear your own name called in a stadium filled with 19,000 cheering, screaming, vibrant people all there for the same reason—a piece of sought-after “DECA glass.”

Make sure your name is one of those being called at next year’s #DECAICDC in Atlanta, Georgia with three simple to-do’s.

  1. Start Early
  2. Pick Passion
  3. Don’t Forget

Start Early

The 2017 International Career Development Conference has officially come to a close, which means it’s the perfect time to start preparing for next year’s conference! Start working with your advisor and friends now to create a game plan for studying throughout the year (whether that means turning in exams and role-plays, practicing vocabulary, or having deadlines for your project’s completion).

Mark important dates and deadlines on your planner, and if you know you have a busy week coming up, take time beforehand to do your DECA work, so it’s always on the front of your mind.

Pick Your Passion

Picking an event is one of the most important keys to success in DECA. Confucius said that if you choose a job you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life, and the same is true for DECA prep!

Make your project about a business plan idea you’ve always dreamed of helping come to life, or decide to do a Team Decision Making Event with your best friend. Competition is one of the best parts of conferences, and it’s even more of an adventure when you’re doing something you love.

Don’t Forget

The energy at Grand Awards Session is one of my favorite things in the world, but there’s only one ICDC every year. During the times between conferences, and when the sunny skies and humidity of Atlanta seem too far off, remember your DECA goals and the incredible experiences ICDC always brings.

Don’t forget about the thrilled expressions of members running up to stage to claim their recognition, the cheering of your association when someone you know is called, and the possibility of you, too, earning your own spot on stage at 2018 ICDC in Atlanta, Georgia.
