3 Tips to Remember for Life from Eddie Slowikowski

Opening session at the 2017 Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference was a total blast!

Eddie Slowikowski, famously known for running the 3:58 second mile, taught #CDECAICDC attendees how to own their futures, as well as how to cultivate our personal brands, during his engaging opening session keynote.

By cultivating yourself and enhancing your personal brand you change the way others view you and even the way you view yourself.

Slowikowski explained to us that employers are no longer looking for the best GPA out there, even though grades still matter, but they are looking for the next generation of innovators. Lucky for us, innovation is what Collegiate DECA is all about. He then went on to express how DECA provides us as students with all of the necessary tools and skills to be the innovators; we just have to use them.

The three suggestions he gave for life will stick with me forever.

  1. Choose what you want to do.
  2. Create a network with people.
  3. Be mentally prepared.

After learning these three important steps to building your brand, he then taught us some amazing dance moves. These dances included the pencil sharpener, the sprinkler and the lawnmower!

Slowikowski ended the session with a very inspirational story that touched on how DECA I all about service and taking your brand and sharing it with passion. His last phrase was, “Let’s work together to make this world more beautiful!”
