7 Things to Look Forward To In 2017
The new year has arrived, and with a new year comes 365 more opportunities to #OwnYourFuture.
A lot of exciting things are in store this year for DECA, so take a look at a few opportunities 2017 has to offer:
1. Leadership Opportunities
DECA has endless options to improve your leadership skills each year. From participating in workshops at leadership conferences to holding a chapter or state office, the opportunities are endless. Personally, I highly recommend running for an association office as the experience will be one of a lifetime and extremely rewarding.
2. DECA Scholarships
If you are a high school senior and have not yet filled out the DECA scholarship application, there is still time to do so. If you want your share in over $300,000 in scholarship funds, fill out your application as soon as possible! The application deadline is January 13.
3. SEM Conference
This January 25-29, Orlando, Fla., will host the 2017 Sports & Entertainment Marketing Conference. Here, members will have the opportunity to learn from professionals in the fields of sports marketing and entertainment marketing to advance their knowledge of the industries and prepare them for competition. Be sure to follow all the excitement on social media with #DECASEM.
4. Networking Opportunities
From social media to the connections you will make at conferences, the networking opportunities in DECA never cease. You will be meeting a multitude of new people this upcoming year, so be sure to take advantage of every opportunity you encounter to build your professional network.
5. CTE Month
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. You can get involved by sharing your DECA experience with others, and by advocating the importance of CTEs, such as DECA, to policymakers and business leaders. Looking for an easy way to get involved? Sign up to be a part of the CTE Month Thunderclap here.
6. Association Conferences
Be sure to prepare for your association conference and competitive events long before the conference begins, so you will be ready to own the competition once you get there, and to increase your chances of qualifying for #DECAICDC. Your association conference is an excellent opportunity to network with other DECA members, and it is a great time to connect with you association officer team.
Last, but certainly not least, is the 2017 International Career Development Conference! #DECAICDC will be in Anaheim, Calif., this April, and is sure to impress this year. Here, you will have the opportunity to meet DECA members across the globe, and to demonstrate the skills you have been perfecting all year in hopes of making it onto the international stage. I hope to see you all there!
This year is certainly going to be one to remember, so be sure to make the most out of it!
