2016-2017 Executive Officer Team Program of Leadership Update

It’s time to plan for the 2016-2017 DECA year!

This past week your executive officers were at DECA’s Headquarters in Reston, Virginia developing a Program of Leadership to carry out during the upcoming school year.

This is intended to serve as a vision for our team to ensure that we are creating goals and carrying out programs that will help DECA members #OwnYourFuture.

Read below to see an outline of the Program of Leadership that we have developed, and make sure to take part in all of DECA’s programs so that we can have a successful year!

Enhance and increase participation in the monthly President’s Council and Associations’ Council as a means to connect Chartered Association Officers with each other and to effectively promote DECA’s programs to its members.
This year, association president’s will once again have an opportunity to connect with each other and share ideas by attending monthly President’s Council meetings. These meetings will take place on the second Sunday of each month, running September through April. Other association officers will have a chance to connect four times during the year on Associations Council Meetings. These will be hosted by your regional vice president, and they will take place on the first Sunday of every month.

Continue to develop platforms of the IMPACT Program to better promote DECA initiatives, share member ideas, and encourage the development of 21st Century Skills.
The IMPACT Program is entering it’s third year, and we have made some changes in order to get more Associations involved, and to create more excitement around the program. This program allows outstanding Association Officer Teams to showcase the impact they have made on their members by submitting videos and various forms of digital media in the following five categories: Advocacy, Community Outreach, DECA Month/Global Entrepreneurship Week, Membership, and National Advisory Board Sponsor Outreach.

Support and promote the activities of DECA’s National Advisory Board (NAB) and serve as active participants in committee activities.
DECA’s National Advisory Board works hard to promote the importance of DECA’s educational programs and opportunities. By serving as members on the National Advisory Board’s four committees, we will represent all of DECA’s 220,000 members in these discussions about the future of the organization.

Promote Emerging Leader Series programming and chapter strategy resources to instructors and members to integrate into classroom instruction, while strengthening chapters and associations.
The resources made available to attendees at DECA’s ELEVATE Academy, which is designed for chapter officers, will soon be shared on deca.org! The ELEVATE program is designed to help chapter officers develop goals for the year, and it provides chapter management strategies which officers can use to create a vision for the upcoming year. It is our goal to ensure that these valuable resources are made known to chapter officers and advisors, and to make sure that they are utilized effectively.

Engage members by implementing digital content through video series’ and regularly scheduled email communication to association officers, in order to bring greater awareness to existing programs.
In a generation where digital content is gaining popularity, we have decided to focus our marketing efforts around using vlogs and a video series to promote our activities, events, and programs throughout the year. This will provide for a fun and engaging way to learn what you can do to get involved in DECA activities. Additionally, the Executive Officer Team will be sending a biweekly email to all association officers with updates that pertain to association leadership, and in these emails we will recognize an “Association of the Month” from each region.

We hope that you are as excited about these goals as we are, and we hope that you are ready to Own Your Future throughout the 2016-2017 DECA year!
