MSU DECA “Making It Count” Again!

On February 9-10, 2014, several Mayville State University students participated in the North Dakota Collegiate DECA Career Development Conference in Fargo, N.D.

The annual state conference provides an opportunity for members to compete in business related events against 10 other North Dakota colleges and universities. Mayville State University Collegiate DECA made a strong impact at this year’s conference, qualifying several students for the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Competition in Washington, D.C., in April.

Competitions, members and places are as follows:

Business Research

  • 1st place – Hailey Vold, Cierra Steele, Kiah Smith

  • 2nd place – Nisa Rajput, Niralee Ranchod, Rochester Mugumbate

Project Management

  • 1st place – Amber Montag

  • 2nd place – Kaitlyn Timian

  • 3rd place – Adam Edwards

Accounting

  • 2nd place – Rochester Mugumbate

Banking Financial Services

  • 2nd place – Landon Rude

Fashion Merchandising & Marketing

  • National Qualifier – Laura Ewert

Hotel & Lodging

  • 3rd place – Missy Kassube

  • National Qualifier – Remington Werner

Restaurant & Food Service Management

  • National Qualifier – Amber Montag

Retail Management

  • 2nd place – Wes Bernier

Business Ethics

  • 1st place – Wes Bernier & Laura Ewert

  • 4th place & National Qualifier – Remington Werner & Amber Montag

International Marketing

  • 1st place – Leigh Dean & Adam Edwards

Sales Management Meeting

  • 3rd place – Landon Rude

  • 4th place & National Qualifier – DJ Carroll

In addition to a great showing in the competitive events, Mayville State University also won three additional awards including the Community Service Awards and awards for 25+ Chapters and 30% Member Increase.

Three individuals also won awards. The North Dakota Collegiate DECA Outstanding Service Award went to Wesley Bernier and Cierra Steele and North Dakota Advisor of the Year went to Rob Johnston.

MSU Collegiate DECA is pleased with its performance at this conference and is ready to take on the competition in Washington, D.C., this spring.
